Il 4 ottobre è anche il Giorno della sardina (イワシの日 Iwashi no Hi)
In Giappone la sardina è un pesce parecchio consumato. A Shimonoseki, l'industria ittica si è specializzata su sardine e acciughe. In generale questo tipo di pesce è catturato in grandi quantità a largo di Osaka.
La giornata si festeggia dal 1985 dalla formulazione di "1 (i) 0 (wa) 4 (shi)"!

October 4th is the day of Iwashi from the pun of "1 (i) 0 (wa) 4 (shi)" in 1985 by the Osaka Prefectural High-Catch Fish Effective Utilization Study Group (Osaka Fish Health Food Council). It was enacted.
